All it takes is a spark.

A capacity-building investment program for nonprofits serving Cabarrus County. Scoped with you and funded by the community.

Your organization has real capacity needs. The kind that don't show up in a program budget: the infrastructure, systems, and leadership support that would make everything you do more sustainable.

Cabarrus Spark is built for exactly that.

It's a grant program of the Greater Cabarrus Foundation that funds organizational capacity-building projects for nonprofits serving Cabarrus County. Support Cabarrus scopes the work with you, GCF approves and posts it for community funding, and when the funding comes in, we do the work together.

You focus on your mission. We help you build the organization behind it.

This is not a traditional grant application.

There are no RFPs, no competitive cycles, no waiting until next quarter. Cabarrus Spark runs on a rolling basis. When your organization is ready to address a real capacity need, we're ready to start the conversation.

This is also not a consulting engagement.

You won't be managing an outside vendor or coordinating a contractor. The work is scoped, guided, and executed by the Support Cabarrus team: the same people you'd call if your board needed support, your financials needed order, or your strategic plan needed a real thought partner.

What Cabarrus Spark does is make that work fundable. Community investors choose your project and fund it. You get the support without the cost barrier.

Projects tailored to your organization’s specific need.
Cabarrus Spark has funded work in areas like:

❋ Strategic Planning

❋ Board governance and leadership development

❋ Financial systems and sustainability

❋ Marketing and communications strategy

❋ Technology and data infrastructure

❋ Staff training and organizational structure

❋ Policy, procedures, and compliance

❋ Fund development and donor engagement strategy

A clear path from interest to impact.

Step 3: Complete Your Application

After scoping, you'll submit a formal application covering your organization's eligibility and a project summary that feeds directly into your public listing.

Fill out a short interest form or reach out directly to Jenn. Tell us about your organization and what you're working through. This is a low-lift starting point: we want to hear about you, not create paperwork. No proposal required.

Step 1: Express Interest

You'll meet with the Support Cabarrus team to talk through your capacity need, define what a realistic project looks like, confirm the budget and timeline, and establish what success means for your organization. This conversation shapes everything that follows, including what goes in your application.

Step 2: Scoping Conversation

Before your project is posted anywhere, you review and approve the public-facing summary. Nothing goes live without your sign-off. The listing focuses on your mission and the impact of the work, not your internal challenges.

Step 5: You Approve What Goes Public

The Greater Cabarrus Foundation reviews your application to confirm the project is well-defined, fundable, and ready to deliver results.

Step 4: GCF Internal Review

Step 6: Community Funds it

Your project is posted on the GCF donor portal, the Support Cabarrus website, and our social and newsletter channels. Community investors choose what to fund. Projects stay posted until funded or refreshed. There's no cutoff date.

Once your project reaches 80% funded, work begins. Support Cabarrus will confirm next steps and the timeline you agreed on in scoping.

Step 7: Work Begins

After the work is complete, we share a brief update with your investors: what was accomplished, what changed, and what became possible. Your story, told with dignity.

Step 8: Outcomes Update

A Transparent Partner

Approval to list your project does not guarantee it will be funded. Community investors choose what to support, and we can't promise a specific outcome.

What we can promise: we will never post a project without your approval, we will position every listed project for success, and we will keep you informed at every step. You will never be left wondering where things stand.

Ready to explore what Cabarrus Spark could fund for your organization?

Getting started is simple. You don’t need a polished proposal or a finished idea: just a real capacity need and a willingness to have an honest conversation about it.
